Hulusi Kilim, who started his message with the words "Volt Cyprus is 1 year old", summarized the party's innovative approach in Cyprus politics as follows:
“On December 3, 2023, our movement, which brought together the societies of our island at the political level and permanently changed the politics of Cyprus with pragmatic, progressive and European-centered policies, celebrates its first anniversary today.”
VOLT CYPRUS' MAIN TARGET IS UNITED CYPRUS
Kilim stated that the establishment of Volt Cyprus is a step taken by progressive people coming together against the main causes of division on the island, such as nationalism, corruption and lack of inter-communal communication, and stated that its main goal is to build a united Cyprus where fairness and prosperity prevail.
Emphasizing that Volt Cyprus participated in the European Parliament elections only six months after its establishment, Kilim said that the party achieved a remarkable success in Cyprus politics by achieving a vote rate of 2.9% and expressed the party's success in the elections with the following words:
“WE ACHIEVED SUCCESS IN THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT ELECTIONS”
“We had the chance to introduce ourselves to our people through the activities we carried out throughout the island, from our establishment until the European Parliament elections in which we participated, exactly 6 months later. "In this short period of time, we showed that we are permanent in Cyprus politics by achieving a success rate of 2.9% in the European Parliament elections, above the vote rates of some political parties with a 20-30 year history, and we sent one of our representatives to the Famagusta Municipality Council in the local government elections."
THE PARTY PLAYED AN ACTIVE ROLE IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
Kilim emphasized that the party played an active role in the House of Representatives throughout the last year through the Party Co-Chairman and representatives in the parliament, and listed the suggestions offered by the party as follows:
“We offered many suggestions. One of these is the law amendment proposal we have submitted to remove the language proficiency obstacle faced by Turkish Cypriot professionals in registering to professional chambers in the south of the island. In addition, we discussed the problems encountered in trade via the green line and presented our suggestions to relevant people and institutions.
“WE STATED THAT DIALOGUE IS ESSENTIAL DURING THE NEGOTIATION PROCESS”
We have stated at every opportunity that dialogue is essential to pave the way for the Cyprus issue negotiation process, which has been deadlocked since 2020, and with this understanding, we have meetings with EU and UN institutions, embassies in Cyprus, non-governmental organizations, professional chambers and unions, including the highest authorities in politics. We did the shopping. "We have managed to establish close relations through cooperation with non-governmental organizations and local governments within the framework of efforts to bring societies closer again."
VOLT REPRESENTS CYPRUS IN EUROPE
Kilim also drew attention to the influence of Volt across Europe and stated that the Volt movement is currently represented in the European Parliament with 5 deputies, adding that these deputies also bring Cyprus to the agenda:
“While it was almost impossible to see a European Parliament member talking about Cyprus other than Cypriots, Volt changed that.”
At the end of his message, Kilim thanked the supporters of Volt Cyprus and said:
“We would like to thank all our members, friends and all our supporters in the society who have supported this initiative since our establishment. Together, we continue to change our Cyprus for the better. We have options and the power to get out of this crisis. “As long as we want it.”
